It took Funraisers ten years to raise £1,000,000 in total. Now, from their Bewl Water 2008 event they expect to raise in excess of £1/4 million with the help of Dragon Boat Events Ltd.
Started in 1997, the annual Funraisers dragon boat festival held on Bewl Water near Lamberhurst, Kent has seen year on year growth to the extent it is now widely recognised as the largest dragon boat festival anywhere in Europe.
This year the event had grown so large it had to be held over two days with the total number of team reaching 83!
With crowds estimated to be in the region of ten thousand, around 1,400 competitors gathered to compete to help raise money for charity.
With the help in past years of major guest celebrities from stage and screen like Anita Dobson from Eastenders and Wendi Peters (better known to everyone of course as Coronation Street's Cilla Battersby-Brown) the combined total raised from this year's event alone is now expected to exceed £250,000!
